Art conservation is a vital tool in preserving cultural heritage and nobody believes this more passionately than conservator Dr Chiara Chillè, who is working in Crawford Art Gallery as we prepare to close for their capital redevelopment project. Join Chiara for a talk on the general principles of conservation followed by a more detailed look at her work with Crawford Art Gallery’s collection. Lonradh is an arts programme for older adults experiencing memory loss, their families and carers. Lonradh sessions take place at St Finbarr’s Hospital and Crawford Art Gallery on a monthly basis. The artist facilitators Gillian Cusssen and Inge Van Doorslaer have produced a creative booklet, designed for use with individuals, small gatherings, and in care settings. The booklet presents eight different art sessions, introducing a variety of techniques and materials. An online version is accessible here. |

Join the Friends of Crawford Art Gallery for a morning of musical delight on Tuesday 20 August at 11.30am in Crawford Art Gallery! Jim Aherne will turn the 78's of some old-time favourites in the magnificent surroundings of Crawford'sLibrary. All of course with the promise of proper tea, good chat, home-made cake and maybe a bit of a sing-song! Friends Pod Tour of From Source to Sea
On Wednesday 21 August, there will be a dedicated Friends Heritage Pod Tour of FROM SOURCE TO SEA with curator Dr Michael Waldron. This wonderful exhibition tells the visual story of our River Lee from its source in Gougán all the way to the sea, meandering through scéal ó bhéal by well-known local characters, The Tailor and Ansty, and overseen by the high sheriff himself, Cónal Creedon, who adds a rich narrative to the tale... will meet in Crawford's Library for teas/coffees & light refreshments at 10.30 before commencing our tour with Michael at 11.15. Kid’s Gallery Art Trail
Check out our new Kids Gallery Art Trail! Our Gallery is home to over 3,500 national artworks for children of all ages to discover. Pick up a free trail along with some colouring pencils and explore our building this summer. This hands-on activity encourages kids to express their creativity while learning about the diverse artworks on display in the Gallery. These booklets are free, and are available to pick up throughout the Gallery. Pencils can be retrieved from our security desk. |
