LIR QUARTET - SUMMER TOUR OF CORK & KERRY This year’s NSQF summer tour of Cork and Kerry welcomes the Lir Quartet - Siobhán Doyle, Kirsty Main, Ed Creedon and Killian White - with an exciting and varied programme and five lovely venues - St Barrahane's Church on the hill in Castletownshend, Kenmare's Butter Market, Cork's Triskel Christchurch, the wonderfully intimate setting of Knockaseed House near Rathmore and finally the historic ballroom of Doneraile Court. Fanny Mendelssohn’s 1834 string quartet remained unpublished until 1988 but is now a core and much loved work in the quartet repertoire. Harry O’Connor is a graduate of MTU Cork School of Music and is continuing his composition studies at Oxford where the Castalian Quartet premiered his fine ‘Summer Idyll’ earlier this year. Brahms’ C minor quartet is one of the greats, its dramatic and impassioned outer movements contrasting with the sublime beauty of the Romanze and the relaxed musings of the third movement.
