August 2026 at The Glucksman August is Cork Craft Month and we are delighted to host a Pop-Up Shop which features thirteen local makers working across various craft media including wood turning, ceramics, textile, soaps and print. For National Heritage Week and Cork Heritage Open Day, we have a free tours of our collection and heritage environment. See details below to book your place. Behind the Scenes highlights the installation of two artworks and a wormery at Horizons Cork's Montenotte campus following our Cork Midsummer project an casadh with Laura Ní Fhailbhín and our Little Interview is with artist Geraldine O'Neill whose artworks are featured in Panorama Europa.  Our exhibitions Panormama Europa and Selected Works: UCC Art Collection, continue across our gallery spaces with a host of events designed to further explore the themes of both shows including the return of our monthly reading group. National Heritage Week: Creative Wanderings Wednesday 19 August 2026 , 12.30 - 2pm Admission Free / Suggested donation €5 Book Here Join us this Heritage Week for a guided walk along UCC’s Biodiversity Trail.  Led by Dr Maria Kirrane (Head of the Sustainability & Climate Action Office, UCC) and artist Sarah O’Brien, the walk will focus on the efforts the university is making to protect wildlife and habitats, while also acknowledging some of the wider research on biodiversity loss. Reading Group: Panorama Europa Saturday 29 August 2026 , 10-11am Admission Free / Suggested donation €5 Book Here Learn more about the artists and artworks on display at the Glucksman with our monthly Reading Group. Over the course of an hour, you will be invited to read a text aloud together* and discuss its themes, ideas, and context in relation to select artworks. This month, we will be looking at the work of Michael Canning and reading from his selected text Silence: In the Age of Noise by Erling Kagge. *You will be able to choose whether to read aloud or listen. Cork Craft Month The Glucksman Gallery and Cork Craft Month Pop-Up Shop Cork Craft Month returns this August with its biggest programme yet, featuring over 90 workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and markets designed to connect the public directly with the county's vibrant craft community. Cork Craft Month celebrates both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary making through a diverse programme of hands-on experiences, exhibitions and demonstrations. Running throughout August in association with August Craft Month, the festival shines a spotlight on the creativity, skill and innovation of Cork's thriving craft community. As part of the festival, the Glucksman are delighted to host a Pop-Up Shop which features 13 local makers working across various craft media including wood turning, ceramics, textile, soaps and print. Their unique, work is displayed and available for purchase from our gallery shop. The Glucksman Cork Craft Pop-Up Shop will run from 1-31 August and will be open during our usual gallery hours, from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am-5pm. Current Exhibitions Panorama Europa Open until 01 November 2026   Panorama Europa presents the work of ten Irish artists who engage with traditions of European painting to explore contemporary identities and wider societal issues.  Find out more here. Image Caption: Photo by Jed Niezgoda.  Behind the Scenes: Installation of Laura Ní Fhlaibhín's sculptures at Horizons Cork This month for our Behind the Scenes we are taking a look back at our Cork Midsummer Project, an casadh, with artist Laura Ní Flaibhín and the legacy of the works. an casadh was an installation of sculptural wormeries, commissioned by the Glucksman and Cork Midsummer and hosted at Elizabeth Fort in June. The exhibition was activated by performances by Ní Fhlaibhín, an accompanying publication and a radio show hosted on éist community radio station.  Two of the sculptures from an casadh were repurposed to become planters with Ruithéal rí (Herb Robert) in Horizons Cork's Bonnington Training Centre and at Root's Cafe. You can visit the planters yourself in the colourful gardens with some of the most beautiful views of Cork City. Alongside these planters the primary collaborator of an casadh - the earthworms - were also donated to Bonnington Training Centre at Horizons Cork, in a purpose built wormery made by Donal O’Leary of Waste Down Cork. The Bonnington Training Centre (BTC) is a specialized educational and life-skills facility located in Montenotte, Cork. It is operated by Horizons (formerly known as the Cope Foundation), an organization that supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. The centre is highly focused on the environment and proudly holds an official Green Campus Flag.
