Hi Cork Cultural Companions Welcome to the Triskel Visual Arts Newsletter. Chris Finnegan has settled nicely into the TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space and will continue working from the gallery until Sun 28 Jun. His recent workshop Play Testers Needed! was a great success, having invited youngsters aged 1-6 to spend some time in a sculptural playscape where they could build, pretend and create to their heart’s content. Chris has the TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space set up specifically to be used, and you’re encouraged to play, explore, and imagine to your hearts content. Creative Workshops for Cruinniú na nÓg is fast approaching! Sample-Studios and Triskel have joined forces to bring you a full day of hands-on creative workshops for children and their families exploring filmmaking, music production, illustration, and printmaking. Each session is led by a professional artist and is designed to inspire young people to develop new skills, express themselves creatively, and explore the possibilities of a career in the arts. Now in Residence Chris Finnegan TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space Residency & Exhibition Thurs 7 May - Sun 28 June Chris Finnegan is a visual artist from Cork City working across photography, sculpture, and participatory practice. Working with young people and adults in different settings, Chris’ practice sees him continuously developing methodologies for collaboration at the intersection of play and art making. Play This Way looks at early years play and takes inspiration from modernist child-centred pedagogies such as the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches, as well as Simon Nicholson’s loose parts play theory. During the residency, Chris will test play materials and transform the studio into a dedicated early years play space. These materials have been developed in collaboration with children in EY educational settings in Cork City. Following this period of testing, the space will open to early years children and their families. Children are invited to interact with the space and materials – exploring, playing, imagining and having fun. As the space changes and evolves as a participatory installation, Chris will document the results of the children’s play; with photographic documentation accumulating in the space in different formats throughout the exhibition. Participants will learn the basics of photography and get involved in designing a collective Playspace using photographs. Music Production with Stevie G 12:00 – 13:30 | Triskel Christchurch Dive into music creation using digital tools and production techniques. Students will experiment with beats, loops, and sound design, and learn how music producers shape their ideas into finished tracks. Textiles with Sarah Buckley 14:00 – 15:30 | Triskel Christchurch Explore the creative possibilities of textile art in this hands-on workshop. Participants will experiment with fabrics, textures, and simple hand-stitching techniques to create their own unique textile piece. Some basic sewing knowledge is recommended. Print with Aoife Claffey 16:00 – 17:30 | Triskel Sample Project Space Discover the creative possibilities of printmaking.
