Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

June marks the height of summer and we are excited to share with you what we have in store this month - from talks and performances for Cork Midsummer Festivalseasonal art classes and workshops to curatorial tours.

We are open Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 5pm and look forward to welcoming you to our current exhibitions 
Labour of Love and Condition Check 

Looking ahead, this summer promises to be the our biggest yet, with the return of an extended programme of Summer Art Camps for children aged 5 to 10. Our creative camps are extremely popular so we recommend signing up for your preferred date as soon as possible.

For Cork Midsummer 2025 we will be presenting a major new seven-day durational performance by artist Amanda Coogan at Cork Centre for Architectural Education. We will also be hosting a dedicated roundtable event - Quality of Life - exploring care in contemporary art. As part of the literary strand for the festival, Western Frequencies, we are honoured to host a talk by author Claudia Rankine and we invite you to join us at Fitzgerald's Park on June 21st as we unveil a series of community made flags and banners for YouthQuake!

For Cruinniú na nÓg we invite you to join us in making a public artwork and o
ur popular classes and workshops continue into June inviting people of all ages and abilities to create together. You can also learn more about our current exhibitions in our series of  curatorial and accessible tours

In our Behind the Scenes we celebrate winning Research Image of the Year for our project commission with artist Claire Halpin and UCC School of Law and in this month's Little Interview we hear from artist Liesel Burisch whose work is featured in our current exhibition Labour of Love

Labour of Love
 presents Irish and international artists who explore the responsibility and reality of labour in contemporary society, and how the burden of unpaid and low paid work might be made visible through art, to focus attention on work and services that are often overlooked, undervalued and hidden from public view. Condition Check: Health & Wellbeing in the UCC Art Collection

Condition Check presents artworks from the University College Cork Art Collection that explore the intersection of art and healing with a particular focus on mental health and physical wellness. Learn more here.

Express Yourself! Summer Camp

The Glucksman Summer Art Camps are back bigger and better! We are delighted to announce that our creative camps for young people will run through July and August.

Glucksman Art Camps fuel children’s imaginations, develop their artistic skills and encourage their creativity. Each session is carefully designed to provide age-appropriate projects and are delivered in a friendly and positive environment. Our Summer camps this year are for children aged between 5-10 years old. 

The camps will be held weekly throughout July and August 2025 and will run Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm at Devere Hall, University College Cork.

€130 plus booking fee per child with all materials provided. Learn more and book here

Caught In The Furze

We are delighted to present alongside Cork Midsummer Festival a seven-day durational performance by artist Amanda Coogan at Cork Centre for Architectural Education

Drawing on ancient folk traditions and contemporary performance, Coogan navigates the spaces between history and memory, myth and modernity. Evolving and shifting each day, the work invites audiences to step in and out, and to witness moments of stillness, transformation, and raw physical endurance.

Quality of Life: A Public Conversation on Care in Contemporary Art

Featuring artists Liesel Burisch and Colin Crotty this dedicated roundtable for Cork Midsummer Festival 2025 brings together artists and curators to discuss the ethics and representation of care in contemporary art.

This event is presented in the context of our current exhibition Labour of Love: Economies of care in contemporary art and will be held at the Glucksman lasting approximately 90 minutes with time for discussion.

YouthQuake: It's all about Community

Get ready for an electrifying day of music, creativity and summer vibes at YouthQuake take-over of Fitzgerald's Park for Cork Midsummer Festival!

We are delighted to be collaborating with the Midsummer Youth Assembly as part of the YouthQuake Festival. Young people connected with Cork Migrant CentreYMCA, and The Lodge in Clonakilty will visit the Glucksman over the coming weeks to work with artist Blanca Rice Cabrera on the design and creation of a series of flags and banners that promote solidarity and inclusion. These large-scale, handmade artworks will be displayed across Fitzgerald’s Park, bringing colour, energy, and messages of welcome to all festival-goers.

Western Frequencies: Claudia Rankine

Join us at the Glucksman for a special event with Claudia Rankine, New York Times bestselling poet and MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award recipient.

This event is part of the literary strand Western Frequencies of Cork Midsummer Festival presented in partnership with University College Cork

Western Frequencies will explore, through cross artform collaboration, performance and conversation, the artistic frequencies, echoes and fever dreams over which we broadcast self and other, culture, community, presence and absence.

Activities for the Whole Family

Cruinniú na nÓg: ART SPACE

Come join the Art Space artists and help to create a large public artwork!

Art Space is a Glucksman project designed to amplify the voice of young people who are experiencing homelessness and to showcase their creativity in the public realm. 

For Cruinniú na nÓg, the Art Space artwork will be unveiled at the Glucksman. We are inviting children aged 5-12 years to visit the museum and to partake in a creative workshop where they will meet the young Art Space artists, learn about printmaking and drawing processes, and even have their own creative work added to the public display!

Family Sundays 

Bring the whole family along to the Glucksman on Sunday afternoons from 3-4pm for a free art workshop. Led by creative facilitators, these free events invite children (and their guardians!) to learn all about making art. Families will spend a creative hour working with a variety of materials and techniques.

Places allocated on first come first served basis. Children must remain accompanied by a guardian.

Tours 
Curatorial Tour: Labour of Love

Join us on Sunday, June 8th for a curatorial tour of our current exhibition Labour of Love: Economies of Care in Contemporary Art.

No specialist knowledge is required. This tour will last approximately one hour and will be followed by time for discussion.

Audio Described Tour

Join us for an audio-described tour of our current exhibition Labour of Love. 

This accessible tour designed for blind and visually impaired visitors will be led by one of our trained staff members, who will give a detailed description of selected artworks in the exhibition.

This friendly and informal tour will last approximately one hour with time for questions and answers.

This month in the Glucksman shop, we invite you to explore our marine world! 

Whether you're fascinated by lighthouses, the coast or it's creatures and folklore; through puzzle making, reading, writing or sending cards for loved ones we have something for everyone!  With Cork Harbour Festival later in the month, this is a great time to be inspired!

Craft + Design Fair Open Call

An open call for all craft makers and designers wishing to participate in this year’s Craft + Design Fair is now underway.

Taking place in our spacious galleries from the 7th until the 9th of November 2025, we invite all interested designers and makers to submit a completed application form by 28th of July 2025. 

The Glucksman's Craft + Design Fair showcases high quality Irish craft and design in the beautiful setting of the gallery’s award-winning exhibition spaces. The Craft Fair has been established since 2008 and has developed into a successful partnership between the gallery, craft makers and designers within Ireland, as well as becoming one of Ireland’s most prestigious fairs.

Behind the Scenes:
Research Image of the Year award

We were honoured that the Glucksman's 2024 project commission Panorama Europa with artist Claire Halpin won Research Image of the Year award at University College Cork's annual research award ceremony.

UCC President John O'Halloran presented the award to Fiona Kearney, Director of the Glucksman, at a ceremony on Thursday 29 May that honoured research achievements across the university. The Research Image of the Year award was made to Dr. Luigi LonardoUCC School of Law, artist Claire Halpin and the Glucksman for the commission of Panorama Europa as part of an EU funded project on citizen's rights.
