Greywood Arts in Killeagh events in June

Idir an Dá Linn - A Lament for a Lake

Idir an Dá Linn
a lament for a lake
5 workshops beginning June 23rd

Our first Seeing the Wood For the Trees invitation to the community is  “Idir an Dá Linn,” or "Between the Two Lakes", which explores the loss of Glenbower Wood’s man-made lake that was drained in the late 1980s.

Join early Gaelic harp player Mícheál Ó Catháin and Philip Ryan from Nocht Studio and  to create a community keen, using the Irish language to mourn the lake’s erasure.

Developed in collaboration with the woodland’s management committee, this collective act aims to make space to grieve the lost landscape and inspire active caretaking of the woodland. It will be performed on August 24 as part of Heritage Week.

Contact create@greywoodarts.org to express interest in joining the 5 community keening workshops in Glenbower Wood, taking place on Monday Evenings: June 23rd & 30th, July 7th, August 11th & 18th.

Landscape Sketching Workshop
with Camilla Fanning

Join us for an engaging and hands-on workshop exploring the art of landscape sketching!
14th June Saturday

The Coach House at Greywood Arts, Killeagh

Led by Camilla Fanning (MFA, NCAD), member of Graphic Studio Dublin and Cork Printmakers, this workshop introduces key techniques for developing and maintaining a sketchbook practice.

For centuries, artists have used sketchbooks to document the world around them, refine ideas, and generate inspiration for finished works. In this session, participants will learn how to approach outdoor in-situ sketching and explore how drawing plays an essential role in the creative process. This workshop is ideal for artists interested in using a sketchbook to evolve their ideas and support their artistic practice.

What to Expect:

  • Studio Session: Introduction to sketchbook practice, its purpose, and techniques for quick recording in-situ. Learn core methods such as ‘shorthand’ sketching and practical logistics.
  • Outdoor Guided Sketching: Head outside with the tutor to sketch nearby surroundings.
  • Free Sketching Time: Enjoy independent sketching in the nearby woodland.
  • Show & Tell: Return to the studio to share and discuss work.

Materials:

Participants bring their own materials (a list will be provided in advance). A selection of dry media will also be available to experiment with on the day. We will go outside to sketch and walk around to Glenbower Woods, so be sure to bring suitable outside clothing and shoes as well.

This workshop is perfect for anyone eager to explore landscape sketching in a supportive and inspiring environment.
