Dear Cultural Companions CORK SUMMER GALA CONCERT SATURDAY 14th JUNE Just over a week to go until our annual gala concert in the lovely setting of UCC's Aula Maxima. A stellar line-up of 25 musicians will come together in a programme full of variety, introduced by RTÉ Lyric FM’s Liz Nolan.   The members of the Vanbrugh have been at the heart of musical life in Cork and Ireland since 1986. Together with their regular guests Marja Gaynor, Ed Creedon and Stéphane Petiet, they will play favourites from the string quintet repertoire by Mozart, Brahms and Dvořák   The Solas Quartet, led by Irish Chamber Orchestra leader, Katherine Hunka, tours regularly for the Foundation and their typically eclectic contribution to the evening will include music by Haydn as well as arrangements of trad tunes from Ireland and Scandinavia   The extraordinary Yershovy sisters from Ukraine were recently crowned Ireland’s most talented family by TG4’s Réalta agus Gaolta. Their set will include their own new arrangement of Sarasate’s breathtakingly virtuosic Spanish dance Navarra   The Olympia and Meliora Quartets are two outstanding young string quartets based in MTU Cork School of Music who have been dazzling audiences with their concerts around Cork and Kerry in recent months. Before they head to Bantry for the West Cork Chamber Music Festival at the end of June, they join us here with great music by Beethoven and Fanny Mendelssohn.   The climax of the evening will be the first performance by Katherine Hunka’s Rebel Strings, a super talented group of Cork string players who come together in selections from Grieg’s wonderful Holberg Suite Refreshments will be available as always!   If you can join us, please consider booking in advance, the event has sold out in recent years.  🎫Discounted tickets can be bought via Cork Orchestral Society under the General Admission > Concession / COS Members tab-members should select the amount required, and on the following page enter the code vanbrugh25 to avail of the €25 tickets.
