event - Kilmurry talk by Gerry White

Date/Time: Friday 7 March 2025 at 20:00

Event: Talk by Gerry White - From Treaty to Turmoil

Location: Independence Museum Kilmurry, Kilmurry, Co. Cork

Additional Information: The March lecture at Independence Museum Kilmurry is by renowned military historian, Gerry White, titled 'From Treaty to Turmoil' .

"The dark clouds of civil war started to gather over Ireland after Dáil Éireann approved the Anglo-Irish Treaty on 7th January 1922. However, it would be five months before the war started when Free State forces shelled the IRA garrison on the Four Courts in Dublin. In this presentation, the second in his trilogy on the Civil War, Gerry White looks at that period in some detail including the positions adopted by both sides of the Treaty divide and the efforts made by leaders on both sides to avoid bloodshed.''

With both 'Civil War' parties back in government in 2025, this lecture offers a timely and insightful look at their origins, differences and the deep divisions that once defined Irish politics, while providing valuable historical context for today's political landscape. The lecture will take place in the Museum's Heritage Room on Friday March 07th at 8pm. Admission is free to members and €5 for non-members. All welcome.
