Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Cork International Film Festival August News

Autumn is around the corner and, as we approach our 69th edition this November, we can't wait to soon start sharing news about #CIFF2024. In the meantime, CIFF is delighted to be recognised for its innovative programmes and creative partnerships, including being shortlisted for the 2024 Business to Arts Awards, Chambers Ireland Sustainable Business Impact Awards and Cork Digital Marketing Awards this month.

CIFF2024 IRISH SHORTS SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE:
FRIDAY, 2nd AUGUST

IGNITE-Docs AWARDED 2024 SCREEN STAKEHOLDERS FUNDING SCHEME

IGNITE-Docs, a documentary filmmaking talent development programme created by CIFF in partnership with Docs Ireland Belfast, has again been awarded funding by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland's 2024 Screen Stakeholders Funding Scheme. This scheme supports organisations to deliver high-quality skills development activities for the Irish screen sector.

Now in its fifth year, IGNITE-Docs
 aims to foster a new generation of documentary filmmakers and is directed towards emerging Irish and Northern Irish documentary filmmakers embarking on their first or second non-fiction feature film. IGNITE-Docs Year Five (2024-2025) applications will open on Wednesday, 7th August.

BUSINESS TO ARTS AWARDS

With the valued support of ESB Energy for Generations Fund, since 2019 CIFF has supported over 7,800 young people through our flagship Youth Film and Mental Health Programme, Intinn. This creative partnership has been recognised by the Business to Arts Awards once again and has been shortlisted in the Community Foundation Ireland Creative Access Award category.

The Festival also been shortlisted in 'Judges Special Recognition Award’ category along with its portfolio of partners: ESB Energy for Generations, Irish Examiner, Babelfís, Murphy’s, Future Planet & University College Cork.

The Business to Arts Awards recognise businesses, philanthropists, artists, and arts organisations that develop compelling creative partnerships, and CIFF has been shortlisted for the fourth year in a row. The
 32nd Business to Arts Awards will take place on Monday 9th September at the National Concert Hall.

CHAMBERS IRELAND SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS IMPACT AWARDS

CIFF joined forces with its Sustainability Partner Future Planet with the aim of improving climate literacy and encouraging positive action through the medium of film. Our unique partnership has been recognised by the annual Chambers Ireland Sustainable Business Impact Awards, which showcase best practice in sustainable development and social responsibility undertaken by companies across Ireland.

Future Planet and CIFF are shortlisted in the Volunteering & Pro Bono Services category while Future Planet is also shortlisted for Inspiring Sustainable Impact in Sustainable Impact by a Small Business category. The awards will be presented on Wednesday, 25th September.
 

CORK DIGITAL MARKETING AWARDS

The nominees for the Cork Digital Marketing Awards 2024 have just been announced with CIFF nominated in the ‘Best Digital Marketing Team‘ and 'Best Social Media Campaign' categories.

The awards, which will be announced on Friday, 11th October, spotlight the digital, social and online achievements of Cork businesses and are hosted by Cork Chamber.

'Souls, Shadows and Secrets' Live at the Everyman

Originally commissioned by Cork International Film Festival with support from Cork City Council Commemoration Fund and presented in partnership with UCC for our 68th Festival in 2023, Souls, Shadows and Secrets will be presented at the The Everyman on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August.

Written and directed by Barry Monahan, UCC Lecturer in Film Studies, this play gives voice to three of Ireland’s prominent historical figures: Constance Markievicz, Michael Collins and Éamon de Valera. This breathtaking, unique performance integrates live traditional Irish music with Pathé newsreel footage of the period and presents a thrilling moment of Ireland’s history.
National Heritage Week

National Heritage Week, celebrating Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage, takes place August 17th-25th.
 
A week that brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts to share their experience, knowledge culture and practices.

OPEN CALL: Accenture's Women on Walls 

Accenture's Women on Walls at UCC will recognise the pioneering achievements of outstanding women and enhance the visibility of women leaders from, or with links to, the Munster region through commissioned portraits. When completed, the new artworks will join the UCC Art Collection and will be permanently exhibited on the UCC campus.

Members of the public are invited to submit their suggestions on the subjects for the artworks by Tuesday, August 6th.
