Call for Submissions for the 2024

10 x 10 Minute Play Event

Submission Deadline: Sunday 6th October 2024

Time to polish off those short plays, or perhaps start putting ideas down on paper for the first time. There are just 11 weeks to our submission deadline.

And we are accepting entries from today so, if your play is ready to go, feel free to submit it to the email address below.

IMPORTANT: Please note that, due to the very large numbers of entries that we have received in recent years, we are only accepting submissions for this event from writers resident in Ireland and the UK.

Apologies to our writer friends in the rest of the world but the sheer number of plays received last year made our readers' task a mammoth one. We hope you understand.

Other important points to note when entering include:

  • Plays should be no more than 10 minutes in duration and should have a simple setting (minimal props and furniture). Other than that, we are open to plays of all genres - comedy, tragedy, farce, fantasy, horror...

  • The 10 minute maximum duration is important, so, if you’re unsure of how long your play runs, the easiest way to gauge it is to do a live reading. This is always a useful exercise as it can also bring to light any issues with dialogue or plot. A rough guide is 7 or 8 pages of double-spaced dialogue.

  • As per previous years, all submissions will be read by our panel of readers and a shortlist of 10 plays selected. Those 10 plays will then be staged during our performance week.

Plays must be submitted no later than Sunday 6th October and should be sent as a Word document or PDF to: theatre@corkartstheatre.com with the subject line 10x10 Submission 2024. Please do not submit plays to any other Cork Arts Theatre email address.

Please note too that the 10x10 Minute Play Event is a fund-raising event for the Cork Arts Theatre and, as such, we are not in a position to pay royalties should your play be chosen for performance.

The performances of the selected plays will run from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 7th December.

If you have any other questions please email: theatre@corkartstheatre.com

We look forward to receiving your entries in due course. Happy writing!

The Comedy Improvised

Midsummer Murder Mystery

Starring Laura O’Mahony, Laura Harte and John McCarthy

from The Improv Panto, with Annette Roche and Adrian Scanlan from Snatch Comedy Improv

Wednesday 31st July to Saturday 3rd August @ 8pm

Lunchtime Matinee: Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd August @ 1pm

Your favourite Improv Comedy Murder Mystery Gang are back this Summer with a fast-paced version of their hit show.

There’s been a murder and everyone is a suspect! Whodunnit? Who knows? Certainly not the cast because this show is entirely improvised. With no script to fall back on, the actors must create the entire plot, with its many twists and turns, totally off the cuff. As always with this gang, things get out of hand pretty quickly with deadly (and hilarious) consequences.

The audience plays their part too as they secretly decide beforehand who the mysterious murderer is. They also provide hilarious ‘secrets’ that the cast read out at random moments to add mayhem and mirth to the proceedings. All of this is completed before the show starts so you can then sit back, relax and enjoy the ensuing mayhem.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the show and the audience suggestions, this show is only suitable for persons over 16. Definitely not one for the kids.

Directed by: James Horgan

The Comedy Improv Midsummer Murder Mystery is part of our Summer Season. Running throughout July and August, each of the eight shows in the season will have 6 performances from Wednesday - Saturday, including a 1pm show on Thursday and Friday.

For these lunchtime performances, patrons can choose a Lunch & Show ticket for €18, which includes soup or sandwich option, served from 12 noon until ten minutes before the performance time. Show Only tickets are also available for the 1pm shows at €15.
