This year, we are delighted to present a selection of Children's Craft Workshops to celebrate the Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday, while our young makers are busy creating beautiful crafts, their parents or guardians can browse the Fair or enjoy a coffee in Léa's café.

We are delighted to invite you to the private view of our upcoming exhibitions Territory: Hughie O'Donoghue  & Radical Archaeologies: Unearthing landscape in contemporary Irish art, at 5pm on Thursday 30 November.

We recently facilitated creative workshops with the Down Syndrome Centre Cork, coinciding with Down Syndrome Awareness month and we look forward to hosting an exhibition of the work created in the gallery at the end of the year. In the Behind the Scenes, we look at our recent win at the Traveller Allies Awards Ceremony.

Education

Truth be Told

A Creative Agency project that explores messaging, media and visual storytelling

This Autumn, the Glucksman invites teenage asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to work with artist Seiko Hayase on a series of creative workshops that explore the art of détournement. Taking inspiration from current exhibition détour: Selected works from the FRAC Bretagne collection, participants will learn creative skills under the guidance of artist, curators and facilitators.

Détournement is the art of mixing, sampling or editing advertisements or images from mainstream media to subvert or 'détourn' the meaning behind the original image in an effort to highlight a social injustice. The teenagers aged 13-17 years will develop their ideas and skills over 4 days of workshops as they work to create original art for public presentation. The
Creative Agency project is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.

Better Together

Art workshops with the Down Syndrome Centre Cork

Young people with Down Syndrome and their families have been visiting the Glucksman this October, coinciding with Down Syndrome Awareness month, to take part in facilitated hands-on creative workshops that explore the idea of togetherness.

Taking the theme of family as the inspiration for the art activities, children and their parents have worked on large scale drawings, prints and paintings. Under the guidance of facilitator Meadhbh Healy, participants have had the opportunity to learn new skills and to make great art in a fun and relaxing environment. We look forward to celebrating the young artists at the end of the year when we host an exhibition of their created artworks in the gallery.

We were honoured to receive a Traveller Ally Award alongside many of our University College Cork colleagues.

We are delighted to have received this award acknowledging The Glucksman as a local ally of the Traveller community in recognition of our educational projects that enable Travellers to express their views through art with emphasis on culture and rights.
