The Everyman Summer Season 2023

 HELLO CORK AUDIENCES!

We’ve got a stellar season in store for you this summer.

I am beyond thrilled to tell you that our summer production is Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie directed by Emma Jordan. The award-winning director is no stranger to Williams’ work, having directed A Streetcar Named Desire at The Lyric in Belfast last year.

Emma has recently been in The Everyman with the Gate Theatre’s production of Enda Walsh’s The New Electric Ballroom and we look forward to welcoming her back.

The summer season kicking off can only mean one thing: Cork Midsummer Festival! The Everyman is delighted to be involved in five productions for the festival. In collaboration with Cork Midsummer Festival and National Sculpture Factory, and with support from Cork City Council, we are bringing the Venice Biennale-winning Sun & Sea to City Hall – this is your only chance to see this extraordinary work at an Irish venue. Former Artists in Residence BrokenCrow will present their second and third new works in association with The Everyman.

Look out for Aideen Wylde’s FOUND and Gavin McEntee’s The Settling around the city. We continue working with trailblazing Cork-born artist Gina Moxley as she brings the world premiere of the immersive and wild I Fall Down to the Crawford Art Gallery. Watch this space for more exciting ventures.

After the success of The Pat Kinevane Festival by Fishamble last autumn, the Cobh-born artist is back with his brand-new show King, which has been receiving rave reviews.

Another firm favourite, Aidan Dooley, returns with Tom Crean – Antarctic Explorer to enthral audiences of all ages. Flick through for more top-notch theatre and opera and look out for our accessible performances. As always you are welcome to join us for post-show discussions on selected performances.

Great outings are in store with the Irish premiere of Bridesmaids, based on the hit movie, and my personal choice Buffy Revamped, which will provide the ultimate nostalgia fest. The smash hit Potted Potter: The Unauthorised Harry Experience and our local hula hooping, acrobatic champions, Circus Factory‘s Pitch’d Festival Gala will entertain the whole family.

Comedy nights will keep you laughing with Anne Gildea, Gearóid Farrelly and local hero Chris Kent. What’s more, musical offerings will get you in the rhythm with London Concertante’s Music from the Movies, Ralph McTell’s 80th birthday tour and tribute acts galore. The Everyman Sunday Songbook marks an outstanding 20 years at The Everyman with their summer show Boppin’ at the Drive In: The Fab 50s.

Our Artists Afternoons will continue monthly whilst young culture vultures will be kept busy with Theatre Making and Citizenship Cork, Cruinniú na nÓg and Heritage Day.

Roots & Shoots: The Line has Two Sides Free Art Workshop Bealtaine 2023

Roots & shoots: The Line has Two Sides

With visual artist, Sharon Dipity

Presented in partnership with Cork County Council and Age & Opportunity for Bealtaine 2023

8 places – booking essential – free of charge

info@westcorkartscentre.com or 02822090

In this workshop Sharon invites participants to explore mark-making, movement and writing. Working with our own bodies to create drawings from the inside out, we will move and draw using a variety of drawing tools. How does it affect the way we draw if we translate our movement and body experience into mark-making?

No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothes, that you are happy to get dirty.

While in studio at Uillinn, this years Bealtaine Artist in Residence, Sharon Dipity will be investigating the dynamic between the drawn line and body movement in the context of her own experience of aging. Both embracing and transcending the limitations of an old injury, she will explore and create her own fluid vocabulary of mark-making, movement and gesture.

ACCESSIBILITY

West Cork Arts Centre is a wheelchair accessible venue. There are wheelchair ramps to the right of the building (The Porch) and the left of the building (the courtyard of The Coffee Shop) which lead directly into Reception and The James O'Driscoll Gallery. There is an internal lift to bring patrons from the ground floor up to Gallery II and beyond. Both of our galleries and The UCC and Bollinger Family space are fitted with an Induction Loop System to assist those with hearing impairment.

Bealtaine Festival Talk with artist Deirdre Frost and members of CCP

Come along to the Atrium in Cork City Hall on Thursday 11 May for a public talk that explores the project Memory of Place with artist Deirdre Frost and members of Cork City Partnership Knocknaheeny. Free Event

In Spring 2022, The Glucksman partnered with CCP, Knocknaheeny to invite older members of the community to take part in a creative project with artist Deirdre Frost. The project was designed to facilitate the artist to create new artworks in response to the ideas, stories and memories of the community.

Together, artist and community explored their relationship to Cork city, and the changes that have occurred during their lifetime with a particular focus on the built environment. Through a series of creative consultations both at the Glucksman and in the community, the group shared stories, photographs and artifacts with the artist. The sessions also included talks, tours, and creative activities with curators and academics where participants learned about the history, architecture and art of the city.

This public talk will explore the journey that artist and community went on together and will look in detail at Deirdre Frost’s Memory of Place paintings.

Deirdre Frost’s Memory of Place paintings are on display in the Atrium, City Hall from 28 April to 14 May as part of the Bealtaine Festival.
