HELLO CORK AUDIENCES!
We’ve got a stellar season in store for you this summer.
I am beyond thrilled to tell you that our summer production is Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie directed by Emma Jordan. The award-winning director is no stranger to Williams’ work, having directed A Streetcar Named Desire at The Lyric in Belfast last year.
Emma has recently been in The Everyman with the Gate Theatre’s production of Enda Walsh’s The New Electric Ballroom and we look forward to welcoming her back.
The summer season kicking off can only mean one thing: Cork Midsummer Festival! The Everyman is delighted to be involved in five productions for the festival. In collaboration with Cork Midsummer Festival and National Sculpture Factory, and with support from Cork City Council, we are bringing the Venice Biennale-winning Sun & Sea to City Hall – this is your only chance to see this extraordinary work at an Irish venue. Former Artists in Residence BrokenCrow will present their second and third new works in association with The Everyman.
Look out for Aideen Wylde’s FOUND and Gavin McEntee’s The Settling around the city. We continue working with trailblazing Cork-born artist Gina Moxley as she brings the world premiere of the immersive and wild I Fall Down to the Crawford Art Gallery. Watch this space for more exciting ventures.
After the success of The Pat Kinevane Festival by Fishamble last autumn, the Cobh-born artist is back with his brand-new show King, which has been receiving rave reviews.
Another firm favourite, Aidan Dooley, returns with Tom Crean – Antarctic Explorer to enthral audiences of all ages. Flick through for more top-notch theatre and opera and look out for our accessible performances. As always you are welcome to join us for post-show discussions on selected performances.
Great outings are in store with the Irish premiere of Bridesmaids, based on the hit movie, and my personal choice Buffy Revamped, which will provide the ultimate nostalgia fest. The smash hit Potted Potter: The Unauthorised Harry Experience and our local hula hooping, acrobatic champions, Circus Factory‘s Pitch’d Festival Gala will entertain the whole family.
Comedy nights will keep you laughing with Anne Gildea, Gearóid Farrelly and local hero Chris Kent. What’s more, musical offerings will get you in the rhythm with London Concertante’s Music from the Movies, Ralph McTell’s 80th birthday tour and tribute acts galore. The Everyman Sunday Songbook marks an outstanding 20 years at The Everyman with their summer show Boppin’ at the Drive In: The Fab 50s.
Our Artists Afternoons will continue monthly whilst young culture vultures will be kept busy with Theatre Making and Citizenship Cork, Cruinniú na nÓg and Heritage Day.
