Hi Cork Cultural Companions
Welcome to the June at Triskel Newsletter.
Get ready for a month of iconic movies, a three-film season celebrating film director Jim McBride (and two Q&As with McBride himself), and an array of musical delights at Triskel.
Our June programme starts with the final concert of Cork PianoFest 2026, A Brief History of Song, on Fri 5 Jun. This recital will take you on a musical journey around the world, with folksong arrangements from Norway, art songs of the Parisian salons of Fauré and Nadia Boulanger, music from the Great American Songbook of jazz standards, and one of The Beatles’ biggest hits.
There’s only a few more days until we welcome Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and fiddle player Amanda Shires on Sat 6 Jun, as part of her Streetlights and Stars European tour. Co-founder of the country music supergroup The Highwomen, Shires is a truly exceptional musical force that you won’t want to miss.
On Sat 13 Jun, Laoise Leahy presents her special summer lunchtime performance as part of the Triskel Lunchtime Jazz series. Alongside her longtime collaborators the Johnny Taylor Trio, she brings you 'Breathe In & Let Go’, a concert that draws from her recently released EP of the same name alongside reimagined jazz standards, newly composed songs and open improvisations.
We’ll be rounding off the June concerts with the award-winning piano stylings of the Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet on Sat 20, presented by Music Network. This concert will be followed on Sun 21 with Cork Midsummer Festival show Fingerprints; this fully improvised live performance experience is a truly unique show, where music, drawing and movement will interact in real time.
There is so much to look forward to at Triskel Cinema this month! From Sun 7 - Wed 10 Jun, you can catch powerhouse performances from Ian McKellan and Michaela Coel in the poignant black-comedy The Christophers, as well as Sofia Coppola-produced coming-of-age drama Fairyland. We’ll be screening iconic 90s films such as Cronos, the gothic horror that marked Guillermo Del Toro’s directorial debut, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson’s electrifying ensemble drama Boogie Nights. From Mon 22 – Wed 24 Jun, join us for Fugitives, Cops and Rock ‘n’ Roll: Three Films by Jim McBride, a season celebrating the remarkable filmmaker behind Breathless (1983), The Big Easy, and Great Balls of Fire. We’re delighted to be screening this trio of films - and to welcome Jim McBride himself to Triskel, as he takes part in Q&As following The Big Easy and Great Balls of Fire.
