Hi Cork Cultural Companions
Welcome to the Triskel March newsletter. Prepare for some March madness as we are set to bring you a month full of critically acclaimed movies, inspiring art programmes and entrancing live music!
There’s a lot to be excited about at Triskel Cinema this month! Back by popular demand, we begin Sunday 1 March with Sentimental Value, followed by fellow Oscar hopeful Hamnet on Sunday 8 March. We will be screening on of collection of short films of David Lynch, spanning over five decades, on Friday 13 March. This will be followed by the start of our Jane Campion film season starting Sunday 15 March.
Following its success at the Sundance Film Festival, we will be screening the psychological dark comedy, Twinless, a true original you won’t want to miss. Triskel is also thrilled to be co-host of the East Asia Film Festival Ireland (EAFFI), screening the romantic drama Ky Nam Inn and the groundbreaking crime drama The System on Thursday 26 March. We will then be screening the multi Academy Award nominated The Secret Agent from Sunday 29 March.
As well as cinematic gems, March will be filled with wonderful concerts, starting with the classical piano stylings of Michael McHale on Friday 6 March. We then continue our Spring String Quartet Series with the acclaimed Banbha Quartet on Saturday 7 March, who will mark International Women’s Day with a programme of fine music by women composers from the past three centuries. We will finish out the month with two stunning jazz concerts. Marc Copland Quartet are the first performers of our International Jazz Programme starting Friday 20 March, followed by Paul Dunlea and Scott Flanigan being the first act in our brand new Triskel Lunchtime Jazz Series starting Saturday 28 March.
Áine Andrews returns on Tuesday 3 March with another series of Famous Paintings and their Hidden Histories. Be sure to avail of a 20% discount on the series before the first lecture. Triskel Sample Project Space will welcome Kim Crowley on Thursday 5 March. She will establish a curatorial research ‘office’ called the Office of Work (OOW) in the space, which will look to research and interrogate ideas around art making and labour. The OOW will mirror the aesthetics of a traditional office, a nod to the need for creatives to enter environments adjacent to their practice.
Lastly, we are pleased to partner with MTU for Histories and Painting: Contemporary Negotiations, a one-day symposium featuring presentations from 12 artists and writers exploring the artistic, historical, theoretical and societal contexts and debates that underlie painting’s ‘histories’ in all its various guises.
Be sure to look out for updates on all these exciting events and more to come this month.
See you soon,
Gillian and the team at Triskel
