December concerts and more at Triskel Arts Centre

Hi Cork Cultural Companions

Welcome to the Triskel Newsletter for December - the final one of the year but one, I'm sure you'll agree, that is filled with loads of great shows to come.

There are two lectures left in Áine Andrews series on Famous Paintings and their Hidden Histories, finishing with a festive one focusing on the Nativity Window. We will have a new artist in residence in Triskel Sample Project Space this month - Conor O'Brien who will have an exhibition of paintings that act as a gateway to a dimension occupied by divine queer bodies.

There are three concerts left in the year: the Ficino Quartet; Chopin (and some Christmas carols) from Fionnuala Moynihan; and finishing with a spectacular performance from the Spotlight Chamber Music Series featuring one of the seminal chamber music masterpieces of the 20th Century: Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time) by Oliver Messiaen. Please note this piece (and therefore the concert) is 50 minutes long.

In cinema, we have several special screenings: EULAC Cinema Night on Thursday 4 December. Tickets for this free screening of A Fantastic Woman will be released to cinema members on Wednesday 3 December at 7pm and will go on general release on Thursday 4 December at 10am; Black Christmas and Dogma: Resurrection! showing on Saturday 6 December; and The Botanist showing as part of East Asia Film Festival Ireland.

Of course, we have our 'normal' Sun-Wed screenings too - scroll down to check those out now.

We will finish the year with our traditional Christmas movies with some new additions this year: the Muppets, the McCallisters, the McClanes and the Baileys are joined by White Christmas (starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye), Scrooge (the 1951 version) and Miracle on 34th Street (the 1994 version starring Richard Attenborough).

A reminder about Die Hard: IFCO have rated this film 16 and therefore we are legally obliged to refuse entry to anyone under the age of 16, even if accompanied by a grown up. We really don't want to be Grinches this year (or any year!) so if you really want to watch this with your under 16s, please do so at home. If you look young, be prepared to show ID.

If you have strolled past the newly refurbished Bishop Lucey Park, you may have spotted some Winter Sun distracting us from the chill in the air. That light projection on the facade of Triskel Christchurch is courtesy of Elinor O'Donovan and is part of Island City: Cork's urban Sculpture Trail.

And another (gentle) reminder that Triskel Gift Vouchers are available to purchase online - give the gift of culture this Christmas.

See you soon
