Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

We invite older people to join us for a curatorial tour of our current exhibition Stories of Art.

The Glucksman’s Creative Ageing Community programme is dedicated to involving older people in all kinds of activities in the gallery with an emphasis on social, fun and creative encounters. We invite older people to join us for guided curatorial tour of our current exhibition Stories of Art: Selected works from the UCC Art Collection. 

No specialist knowledge is required. This tour will last approximately one hour and will be followed by time for discussion.

Friday 4 October 2024, 11am - 12pm

This is a free event and all are welcome but booking is essential.

Audio Described Tour

Join us for an audio described tour of our current exhibition Stories of Art: Selected works from the UCC Art Collection.

Join us for an audio described tour of our current exhibition Stories of Art: Selected works from the UCC Art Collection. This accessible tour designed for blind and visually impaired visitors will be led by one of our trained staff members, who will give a detailed description of selected artworks in the exhibition.

This friendly and informal tour will last approximately one hour with time for questions and answers.

Curatorial Tour of Groundwork

Join us this Climate Action Week for a curatorial tour of current exhibition Groundwork: Climate Awareness in the UCC Art Collection.

From in-depth explorations of our peatlands to skyward habitats and UCC’s own living arboretum, Groundwork presents the precious, sometimes precarious, but also hopeful vistas of our island home.

No specialist knowledge is required. This tour will last approximately one hour and will be followed by time for discussion.

Creative Saturdays

Join artist Seiko Hayase at Saturday's art classes for adults exploring different mediums and techniques.

Join artist Seiko Hayase for hands on creative activities in our new series of Saturday art classes. Each class will introduce the fundamentals of different art mediums and participants will learn about a variety of materials and techniques.

Suitable for beginners and those with previous experience.

Each stand-alone class, runs for 90 minutes and all materials are provided. 

11.00am Saturdays, 28 September & 5, 12, 19, 26 October.

Back to the Drawing Board


Introductory drawing classes for older people with artist Conor O'Brien.

Join artist Conor O'Brien for a new season of drawing classes for older people. With a focus on still life using charcoal, each class will introduce the fundamentals of drawing and guide participants through step by step processes so they can master line, space, light & shade, and texture.

11am - 12.30pm, Wednesdays on 25 September & 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 October.

Booking is essential.

Art and Wellbeing Classes with Amal Hope

Join artist Amal Hope for a new series of Sunday morning classes that promote wellbeing through creativity.

Amal Hope will lead a new Sunday morning class focused on the power of creativity for health and wellbeing. The classes will provide a variety of art based activities in a calm, positive environment. No previous art experience required.

Each stand-alone class runs for 60 minutes and all materials are provided. 

11am - 12pm, Sundays on 29 September & 6, 13, 20, 27 October.


Booking is essential.

Family Sundays

Bring the whole family along to the Glucksman on Sunday afternoons from 3-4pm for a free art workshop.

Led by creative facilitators, these free events invite children (and their guardians!) to learn all about making art. Just come along at 3pm equipped with your imagination.

This season, we will be drawing inspiration from current exhibitions Groundwork: Climate awareness in the UCC Art Collection and Stories of Art: Selected works from the UCC Art Collection. Families will spend a creative hour working with a variety of materials and techniques. 

8 September 2024 – 3 November 2024, Sundays 3–4pm

No booking required.

Glucksman Shop

This month, as the days are getting darker, we are looking at the stars! 

We have received a new range of educational games from Djeco for all ages and abilities.
If you want to create your own constellation finder, build your space jigsaw or arrange your own glow in the dark stars in your room, we've got you covered!  Come and explore the Glucksman gallery shop and discover a wide range of gifts, books and cards for all ages and budgets!
