Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Alzheimer's Month in Cork County


Every September, people come together from all around the world to raise awareness and to challenge any stigma around dementia. This year’s theme, ‘Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer’s’, is highlighting the positive steps being undertaken by organisations and governments globally to develop a more dementia inclusive society.

The North Cork Dementia Alliance together with Kevin Quaid, member of the Irish Dementia Working Group is hosting a dementia awareness evening on September 25th from 6.30-9.00pm in the Charleville Park Hotel. You can register by phone on 021 4928389 or email ciara.murphy36@hse.ie

The Sunshine Café in Bandon will run on a weekly basis for the month of September. This is supported by the community dementia support workers and staff from St. Michael’s community Centre. To find out more please contact the 24hr answering machine service for the Dementia Care Coordinator Service at (021) 4293998 leave a message and a member of the team will return your call. Thyme for Kindness Café: The dementia care coordinator team are opening and will staff a dementia café in Carrigaline Day Care .The café will open on Tuesday 17th of September from 2 to 4pm and every month on a Tuesday following that.
