Hi Cork Cultural Companions
Welcome to the Triskel Newsletter for August. This month, we’re looking forward to an exciting season of films from controversial director Paul Verhoeven and a lovely lunchtime concert from the Lir Quartet who are here as part of the National String Quartet Foundation’s summer tour of Cork and Kerry.
We’re also delighted to partner with Sample-Studios on what will be a fascinating talk by Dr Matthew Whyte from Sample and Dr Michael Waldron from the Crawford Art Gallery on The French Connection. Following the talk in Triskel Christchurch, Matthew and Michael will bring you on a tour of the Cork/Brittany ‘Maritime’ exhibition in Triskel Sample Project Space. That exhibition represents a culmination of an artistic residential exchange, supported by Brittany Ferries, between two members of Sample-Studios in Cork and two French artists based in Brittany. Tickets are free and will be released on Tuesday 20 August at 10am.
August is slightly quieter at Triskel in terms of ticketed shows but we are working hard behind the scenes to bring you lots of great music, cinema and visual arts for the Autumn. Scroll down to see some highlights.
And if you missed out on the Friday night tickets for Celebrating Alice Coltrane, you’re in luck - tickets for the show on Thursday 24 October are on sale now!
Many thanks to everyone who has completed our post-show survey over the last few weeks. This is part of a nationwide survey of arts audiences and so it may seem a tad generic in places but that is so that results can be collated and remain anonymous. We appreciate everyone of you who has completed the survey as it gives us valuable insights and particular thanks to the person who left this lovely comment:
“Yes I like the fact that I can go alone and I don’t feel in the least intimidated. It’s a very safe space.”
See you soon
Gillian and the team at Triskel
