Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Friday, May 3 – Monday, May 6
Get ready to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of creativity, history, and ecology the May Sunday Festival 2024!

FRIDAY:
  • Photography Exhibition opening 7pm at Greywood Arts
  • Join the procession to Glenbower Wood, following stiltwalkers from Alchemy Arts, as we launch the Seed Pavilion! 8pm from Greywood Arts
    • Enjoy early Gaelic harp by Mícheál Ó Catháin. Paudrig Lee will share a poem from his chapbook Smoking Bees
  • Come together to herald the return of the sun and start of summer with the Bealtaine tradition of lighting a fire with live performance FIREFLAME by Alchemy Arts

We have a brilliant lineup of family friendly events and activities – about this place, yourself, and about each other, as we come into the light this May ☀️

Saturday:
  • 11:30–1:30 Yoga, Fun & Fairytales with Mandy of Seanachai Yoga - for kids and their adult helpers, come and find the pooka…. €5/child
  • 1:15–2:30 Creative Kids Bubble - Running weekly through June 8, join Jeni Wu for mindful making and art & crafts for ages 5-8. To book, contact Jeni directly on 087 914 3783. €12/child
May Sunday:
  • 12–4 Imagination Station - Face painting, leaf & flower printing with Killeagh Scouts (12-2 pm), plus decorate your own plant pot & plant a seed. FREE
  • 11–12:30 Kids Art Workshop - 6-12 year olds are invited to join artist Jaki Coffey at “Seedlings,” growing art for growing minds where we will germinate ideas and watch them grow! FREE
Bank Holiday Monday:
  • 1:30–3 When I Was Your Age - celebrating the arts and creativity as we age, this Bealtaine Hero event is organised in partnership with Age & Opportunity as part of the nationwide Bealtaine festival. FREE
  • 2–4 GAA Family Fun Day - visit the Killeagh GAA Pitch for loads of races and other great activities! FREE
If you’re passionate about nature and enjoy the embrace of the outdoors, these events are for you! 

Saturday:
  • Starting at 2pm Bealtaine Gathering: Journey to the Heart of the Land - join Walsh sisters Helena and Maria underneath the Hawthorn Tree as they share their Celtic wisdom and celebrate Bealtaine with you. €5 suggested donation
May Sunday:
  • Meeting at 6am Dawn Chorus Listening Party with artist Danny McCarthy. Walking through Glenbower Wood, Danny will ask you to mindfully listen to the sounds of the wood as the dawn breaks into the Dawn Chorus Disco... €5/person, €10/family
  • 12–4 Seed & Plant Swap - bring along seeds, seedlings or plants you want to trade. Have a chat with like-minded growers & share your gardening tips.
Bank Holiday Monday:
  • 10–11 & 11:30–12:30 Dogsercise – Join us on bank holiday Monday for an hour of fun and adventure with your dog. Explore the woods like you’ve never seen them before. €10/dog
Calling all creative souls seeking to explore - join us for events that will stimulate your spirit!

Saturday:
  • 10–11 Here Comes the Sun! - with Alison Faith, enjoy a light and playful exploration of Yoga Sun Salutation variations (adult only class) €10/person
  • 11:30–1:30 cré / clay - join local artist Siobhán Joyce for a beginner friendly clay workshop, open to all abilities (ages 16+/adults) €25/person
May Sunday:
  • 1:30–2:30 (lesson) & 2:30–3:30 Festival Céilí - join seasoned Céilí caller Fionán Cogan on May Sunday for a dance lesson, followed by an hour of open dancing! FREE
Bank Holiday Monday:
  • 11–12:30 Wreath Making Workshop - a grounding and rejuvenating outdoor wreath making workshop for adults in Glenbower Wood, led by floral artist Una Mullin (adult only class) €10/person
