Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

The 'grand stretch' has finally arrived, and throughout April we have lots of opportunities and news from Ireland's first and largest film festival.

Applications are open for the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award for third level graduates and our Young (Film) Programmers Project for young cinephiles. 

We are also looking forward to our spring Schools Screening programme kicking off this month, and our free Night of Ideas screening taking place on Wednesday 1st May. For further details on these events and other opportunities, read on below.

OPEN CALL:
PARALLAX EMERGING FILM ARTIST AWARD

Applications are open for the Parallax Emerging Film Artist Award, offering a €5000 bursary, 12-month Associate Membership with Sample-Studios, studio space at National Sculpture Factory and a solo exhibition opportunity at The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, as part of CIFF in November 2025.

Established in 2022, this unique Award seeks out, supports and platforms graduate film artists from Irish fine art tertiary education institutions and is a collaboration between Cork International Film Festival, National Sculpture Factory and Sample-Studios. 

Application Deadline: Friday, 21st June.

OPEN CALL: YOUNG (FILM) PROGRAMMERS

We are seeking four young film enthusiasts, eager to be a part of the CIFF2024 crew, through our Young (Film) Programmers Project.

Guided by the expertise of the CIFF Programming Team, this group will dive into the intricacies of film festival curation, gaining insights into the programming process, from film selection to public screening, and aspects of marketing, licensing, distribution, event coordination, and networking. An opportunity not to be missed.

CIFF2024 REGULAR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE: FRIDAY, 17th MAY

The regular deadline for submitting your film to the 69th CIFF is fast approaching.

Ireland's first and largest film festival welcomes all forms of film production, from fiction to documentary, animation to experimental and more. We recognise filmmakers’ achievements through our 12 awards, including the Best New Irish Feature Award (proudly supported by the Irish Examiner) and three Oscar®-qualifying Short Film awards.


Regular Deadline: Friday, 17th May.

FREE NIGHT OF IDEAS SCREENING:
'REHAB (FROM REHAB)'

We are delighted to present Ila Bêka & Louise Lemoine's Rehab (from rehab) for The Night of Ideas on Wednesday, 1st May.

Recounting her personal story as a young girl who spent her childhood in rehabilitation centres alongside her severely disabled father, Louise Lemoine confronts her traumatic memories with the exceptional experimentation developed at REHAB in Basel, built 20 years ago by Herzog & de Meuron.

This poignant and engrossing film will be followed by a panel discussion.

CIFF SPRING SCHOOLS SCREENINGS

CIFF is proud to host curated schools screenings as part of our commitment to education and accessibility in the arts. These features are selected for Junior Cert, Transition Year, and Leaving Cert students with the goal of fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of film as a powerful medium for storytelling, education, and cultural exchange among young audiences.

The spring programme will take place at the Arc Cinemas Cork City and Midleton, 15th-18th April and at The Reel Picture Ballincollig, 22nd - 26th April.
