Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Music at Midday

Sunday 3 March, 12pm


Directed by Jerry Creedon, Guitar Plus is a professional-level performing guitar ensemble based at MTU Cork School of Music. The group specialises in exciting and colourful works composed and arranged for multiple guitars, and performs regularly in the community in an effort to expand the audience base and promote an appreciation for classical guitar music. The members of Guitar Plus are all senior students and graduates of MTU Cork School of Music with the group providing a valuable ensemble experience for guitarists of diverse backgrounds whilst maintaining musical excellence. Curatorial Tour of ALL EYES ON US

Thursday 7 March, 6:30pm


Join us on Thursday 7 March at 6:30pm for a special tour of our exhibition ALL EYES ON US! Focusing on a selection of works from ALL EYES ON US, co-curator Matt Ryan will explore the rebels, revolutionaries, literary lives, and queer voices represented in the exhibition, shedding light on the choices made when developing the show. Turas Gaeilge

For Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick’s Weekend, we are delighted to announce that we are offering a unique tour of Crawford Art Gallery presented through Irish! Immerse yourself in the National Collection and exhibitions currently on show at Crawford Art Gallery as our knowledgeable guide take you on a captivating journey through the Gallery. This tour provides a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the artwork while engaging with the Irish language, whether you're a fluent Irish speaker or simply interested in experiencing the language. In Conversation: Joy Gerrard and Gail Ritchie

Thursday 14 March, 6pm


Hear more from artists Joy Gerrard and Gail Ritchie in conversation about their respective practices and their work featured in new exhibition A MATTER OF TIME. Joy Gerrard graduated with an MA and MPhil from the Royal College of Art, London. Gerrard is known for multimedia work that investigates different systems of relations between crowds, architecture and the built environment. Gail Ritchie works in a variety of media from installation, photography to sound and object based pieces, drawing on both cultural and historical references. Ritchie completed her practice based PhD in International Relations at Queen’s University Belfast. This event is free to attend and no booking is necessary, to read more visit here.

Grace O’Sullivan MEP and Katrin Langensiepen MEP visit Crawford Supported Studio


We had some special visitors in the Gallery last month as the artists of Crawford Supported Studios welcomed Grace O’Sullivan MEP and her German colleague, Katrin Langensiepen MEP. The MEPs met with artists David Connolly, Nicola Moran, Íde Ní Shuilleabháin, and Tom O’Sullivan, and Yvonne Condon even made lightning-fast portraits of the visitors. Crawford Supported Studios provides safe studio space, art materials, equipment, two long-term studio facilitators, assistance with transport and communications, access to exhibitions, audiences, peers, and professional training and development. It is anchored by a long-term partnership between MTU Crawford School of Art and Design and Crawford Art Gallery, with ongoing support from Cork City Council.

A Matter of Time Preview


We were overjoyed to welcome so many participating artists, colleagues, and visitors to the public preview of A Matter of Time. A Matter of Time considers temporality within a broad spectrum focusing on the human experience. Curated by Dawn Williams, this major new exhibition is open daily until 3 June with free entry.. Displayed over two floors, with the work of 25 artists and 60 works, the exhibition alludes to and includes themes of climate change, nationhood, post-colonialism, appropriation, memory, health, urbanism, meditation, re-emergence, hope, and legacy.  Huge thanks to all who supported the creation of this exhibition and celebrated its opening with us. Free Gallery Tours
 
Sunday & Bank Holiday Tours, 2pm
Check out Crawford Art Gallery’s expert, friendly tours. Take a journey through the historic building with surprising stories of your national collection and delve into the dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions. Sunday & Bank Holiday tours take place each week at 2pm.
 
Thursday Tours, 6:30pm
Heading home from work or out for the night? We also provide free evening tours every Thursday at 6:30pm! You can even bring a date! The meeting point for our free tours is in the Sculpture Galleries. Tours vary weekly and last approximately 45 – 60 minutes. This project is in support of the Night-Time Economy and funded by The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
