Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Happy New Year 2024

Everyone at Cork County Council Library and Arts Service would like to wish all our library members and visitors a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2024.

January is always a busy time for us with lots of people deciding to start the year off in the best way possible - with a brand-new library in their pocket!

You just need to bring Photo I.D and Proof of Address with you to the library, fill out a registration form, and you will become a member in a matter of minutes, and the best news is that it's completely free to join and there are no fines for overdue books!

Get to Know Dunmanway Library


Dunmanway Branch

Dunmanway Library sits in the heart of the vibrant town of Dunmanway in West Cork. You will find us in Market Square with a statue of Sam Maguire, the town’s most famous son, located opposite.

The library itself is a cosy, welcoming space which is widely used by the whole community.

We are open from 9.30am to 5.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The staff of Tjorven, Diane, Áine and Juliette are always happy to help you. You can contact us on 023-8855411 or dunmanway.library@corkcoco.ie

Dunmanway library has the following groups:

We also host many regular events including Storytime & Craft sessions, My Baby & Me sessions, card swap days, talks and workshops on a wide range of topics. 

Services include free public pc access, free WI-FI, remote printing, and photocopying. We also have the following newspapers & magazines available: Irish Times, Irish Examiner, Echo, Independent on Tuesday, Southern Star, Farmer’s Journal, and Bandon Opinion.

We have a lot of Local History information, and we are also the Tourist Information Point for Dunmanway.

You’ll always find something to read in the library, from the latest bestseller to gardening or cookery books. If we don’t have it here, we can order it in for you. You can borrow everything from books, to audiobooks, DVDs and musical instruments. 

Membership is free and you can borrow up to 12 books for 3 weeks on each card.  Even when we are closed there is a wide range of online services that you can avail of, including BorrowBox for eBooks & eAudiobooks, Libby for eMagazines, and LibraryPass for eComics.

DMY_Window Displays

Dunmanway library has two large shop-front style windows facing the street which are an integral part of the community. They are used for exhibitions and displays for everything from Dunmanway Arts Weekend to themed book displays to local sports clubs and schools. Our Knit & Natter group creates amazing group projects including this summer’s teddy bear’s picnic window displays.

EmployAbility Job Clinic at Cobh Library

Thursday January 11th from 2pm - 4pm

Joanna from EmployAbility Service Cork will be back in the Cobh Library for her drop-in jobs clinic.

If you have an illness, injury or disability and would like to either secure or be supported in your current employment drop in for a chat. No appointment necessary.

Come along and swap your pre-loved books with us! Take a book, leave a book. Maximum of 3 books per person, and they must be in good condition.

A great way to recycle your Christmas reads and support sustainable living!

Mitchelstown Writers Group

Reconvening mid-January 2024

Writer in residence Victoria Kennefick will be working with the group throughout 2024. She is an award-winning poet.

Victoria brings a wealth of experience in teaching and creative writing facilitation to the role. She was the UCD/Arts Council of Ireland Writer-in-Residence 2023 and Poet-in-Residence at the Yeats Society Sligo 2022-2024.

Free Art Classes at Youghal Library

Every Wednesday at 11am with the first class beginning on Wednesday January 3rd.

These art classes with Priyanka are for people aged 55 and over, and will involve drawing and painting.

Local Abstractions and Portraits at Cobh Library

Cobh Library welcomes local artist John O’Keeffe to the Gallery Space for the month of January with his exhibition of paintings titled ‘Local Abstractions and Portraits’. 

It’s sure to feature a host of local faces and places and will be well worth a visit so be sure to drop in and check it out.

Niall Cuddy Exhibition

Niall Cuddy's collection of paintings will be on display in Kinsale Library from Wednesday January 10th to Saturday February 3rd.

There will be an official opening for the exhibition on Saturday January 20th at 3pm.

Ann Martin Skibbereen Exhibition

Ann Martin Exhibition at Skibbereen Library

An exhibition of Ann Martin’s artwork will be on display in Skibbereen Library for the month of January.

Ann’s art is a snapshot of Skibbereen and Schull in the early 2000’s and features many local people.

Universal Class provides over 500 online e-learning courses facilitated by real tutors who will oversee your learning by providing assignments to complete at your own pace. You can also contact the tutor with any queries by e-mail. At the end of the course, you will gain a certificate of completion.

Comics Plus App

The Comics Plus app, powered by LibraryPass, is a digital platform offering thousands of digital comics, graphic novels, and manga to readers with their Cork County Council Library membership card.

You can access thousands of comics and graphic novels using a smartphone, tablet, or web browser, and the app can be downloaded to multiple devices. Comics Plus offers unlimited access to all titles which means there are no waiting lists, so you can read your favourite graphic novel or comic whenever you like!
