Mobile Library Service Mobile South, Mobile East, and Mobile North Schools will soon be out for the summer, but Cork County Council Library Service’s fleet of Mobile Libraries will still be on the road bringing books and more to towns, villages, nursing homes, and homes in rural communities all across Cork County. The four Mobile Libraries each serve an area of the county: North, South, East, and West, and they run on a fortnightly schedule. Now in its second year, National Food Waste Recycling Week will run from Monday June 5th to Sunday June 11th. This campaign, managed by MyWaste.ie will provide practical advice, with easy-to-follow hints and tips to encourage everyone to recycle more of their food waste. As part of the campaign, Cork County Council will host exhibitions and talks in a number of libraries around the county. They enjoy reading or sharing a story no matter what their literacy levels are. The month of May had a sports theme - “Legends: Stories from Ireland’s Sporting Greats” - and you can pick up a copy of this book by Patricia Scanlan in Dunmanway Library or have a chat with Diane if you’d like to find out more about joining this new book club. The next meeting of the All Welcome Book Club will take place on Wednesday June 7th at 11.30am. Dunmanway Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Exhibitions Fotagraphy Exhibition at Cobh Library Fota Wildlife Park is celebrating its 40th birthday and to celebrate it is exhibiting winning entries from its recent photography competition for the month of June in the Exhibition Space in Cobh Library. Cantonese Irish Photo Exhibition at Youghal Library On display in Youghal Library for the month of June, this exhibition shows the childhood photos of the Cantonese Irish in Ireland. Cantonese immigrants come from Cantonese-speaking regions of the world. They left their home countries for different reasons. Bringing their Cantonese language, heritage and more, these people settled down in beautiful Ireland. Their children may be born here. These children grow up in Ireland like all the other children here. They learn Irish in the school. Some of them play GAA or do Irish dance. They celebrate, participate and play. Youghal Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Thursday Club Art Exhibition at Newmarket Library The Thursday Club will have an exhibition of their fantastic work on display in Newmarket Library from Tuesday June 6th to Thursday June 29th. With the use of acrylics, members created pieces based on the landscape, still-life, and animals. Please call in to have a look! Newmarket Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Dunmanway Library Window Displays Throughout the year, Dunmanway Library will have a variety of arts, crafts, knitting and more on display in the library window. Just recently, a selection of Blanket Stitchings created by residents of Dunmanway Community Hospital was on display as part Arts for Health West Cork Partnership Programme. The next time you're passing by, be sure to stop for a little while and appreciate the wonderful creativity on show. Dunmanway Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Diving Ireland Underwater Photography at Carrigaline Library There will be an amazing photography exhibition on display at Carrigaline Library for all of June. The photos were taken by Diving Ireland Underwater Photography, and all the sea-life featured can be found in Irish waters. Carrigaline Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Reflections Within Exhibition at Midleton Library ‘Reflections Within’ is an incredible collection of paintings from Cobh-based artist Gloria O’ Doherty that will be on display at the Midleton Library until the end of June. Midleton Library | Cork County (corkcoco.ie) Rory Gallagher Exhibition at Macroom Library Ramon Muntjewerff presents the Rory Gallagher Exhibition, which is a fantastic collection of official signed photos of Rory and other music stars by famous Dutch photographer Govert de Roos. The exhibition will be on display in Macroom Library from Saturday May 27th until Saturday July 1st so please call in to have a look whenever you’re passing by. LOTE Online For Kids allows children to enjoy the magic of books in World Languages from the comfort of home. Each book is provided with an English translation to help develop multilingual reading and listening skills. The LOTE (Language Other Than English) online database contains over 1750 digital picture books in 50 languages. There are also activities available to play online or download. Offering a wide selection of books, audiobooks and DVDs, as well as access to request items from the Cork County Library Catalogue, there is something for everyone. Located on the High Street of Newmarket Town and staffed by Peter, the Library is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9.30am – 5.30pm and Wednesdays from 9.30am – 1pm. Please note that Newmarket Library is closed on Fridays and Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday. This is a free event; no booking is necessary.   Interesting Facts: Newmarket Library was once a private residence before it was transformed into the library that is there today.
