Bealtaine - Deirdre Frost

A free public talk in the Atrium, Cork City Hall

We are pleased to present a free public talk in the Atrium, Cork City Hall as part of Bealtaine Festival, with artist Deirdre Frost and members of Cork City Partnership Knocknaheeny.

In Spring 2022, the Glucksman partnered with Cork City Partnership, Knocknaheeny to invite older members of the community to take part in a a creative project with artist Deirdre Frost. The project enabled the commission of a new work for the UCC Art Collection by inviting the artist to engage with the ideas, stories and memories of their communities.

This free public talk will explore the journey that both the artist and community went on together and present an opportunity to view the paintings which are on display in the Atrium, City Hall from 28 April to 14 May as part of Bealtaine Festival.

An afternoon of creative fun

Bring the whole family along to the Glucksman on Sunday afternoons from 3-4pm for a free art workshop. Led by our team of creative facilitators, these free events invite children (and their guardians!) to learn all about making art. Just come along at 3pm equipped with your imagination.

This season, we will be drawing inspiration from the exhibition Hollow Earth: Art, Caves and The Subterranean Imagery, and making artworks all about a world below. Looking at pre-historic cave paintings and drawings, exploring the living creatures that reside in the deep both real and mythical,  families will spend a creative hour learning and making together.

Behind the Scenes

Towers and Tales

The Glucksman team headed to Lismore Castle on Saturday 29 April for the annual Towers and Tales Festival. Towers and Tales is a celebration of contemporary children's literature and illustration, designed to give young audiences unforgettable, creative and transformational experiences with books. Since the inaugural festival in 2015, Towers and Tales has become a unique event for families, children and young people. The Festival encourages audiences to engage with literature and storytelling through innovative programming and a focus on participation.

The Glucksman have been providing creative workshops for children at the festival each year and this year our focus was on cave art and subterranean life. Inspired by our current exhibition Hollow Earth, children had the opportunity to create large scale cave drawings, design mystical underground characters and tell their stories of subterranean worlds. It was a fun packed day in the idyllic setting of Lismore Castle and  we can’t wait until next year’s festival!
