Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Cork Historical and Archaeological Society Winter Lecture Series 2022-23


Wednesday 9 November 2022 @8pm in UCC West Wing Room 6 and online: ‘The Skellig Lists: A Cork Perspective’ by Shane Lehane.

Wednesday 14 December 2022 @7pm in Dora Allman Room, Student Hub, UCC: the Society’s Christmas Event. This event is a social reception, with finger food and wine, followed by a short talk entitled ‘Yuletide at Her Majesty’s Pleasure?’ by Dr Ciarán Dawson, Ionad na Gaeilge Labhartha, UCC. The cost per person is €15. Attendance needs to be booked by registering in advance on the Society’s website. Please note this event is for CHAS members only.

Wednesday 18 January 2023 @8pm in UCC West Wing Room 6 and online: ‘Ringforts and Cork’s 18th Century Estate Maps’ by Dr Edward Riordan.

Wednesday 8 February 2023 @8pm in UCC West Wing Room 6 and online: ‘Twenty Years Collecting: some interesting archaeological finds from county Cork in the National Museum of Ireland’ by Maeve Sikora.

Wednesday 8 March 2023 @8pm in UCC West Wing Room 6 and online: ‘The Cork Historic Towns Atlas fascicle: old and new findings’ by Prof. Howard B. Clarke.

Wednesday 5 April 2023 @8pm in St George’s Arts and Heritage Centre, George Street, Mitchelstown: ‘Liam Lynch: Life of an Irish Revolutionary, 1892-1923’ by Gerard Shannon. This event, co-hosted with the Mitchelstown Heritage Society, is the Cork Historical & Archaeological Society’s annual County Lecture. Mitchelstown has been selected for his year’s county lecture given its proximity to the location of the death of Liam Lynch in April 1923. The event will also mark the association of Canon Courtney Moore, a founding member of the Cork Historical & Archaeological Society, with the lecture’s venue, St George’s Arts and Heritage Centre.
