Musical history reminds us that music comes in families. The Mendelssohn family are a particularly remarkable story, one sister and two brothers, united in music from an earliest age. Youngest brother Paul was a superb amateur cellist for whom both brother Felix and sister Fanny composed sonatas and occasional pieces to be played at her famous musical salons in Berlin with Felix on the piano. Though few salons could compare with this one it was just such family musical gatherings that were the foundations of the outpourings of the nineteenth century chamber music that we all love.

Johannes Moser and Alasdair Beatson perform this much-loved music in the main evening concert in St Brendan's Church on Saturday 25 June. For more details, click here.
