THE LONESOME WEST | THE EVERYMAN, CORK | 24 APR 2024
Kilmeen Drama Group presents
THE LONESOME WEST

By Martin McDonagh
WED 24 APR, 8PM

Directed by Christy O’Sullivan

As part of The Leenane TrilogyThe Lonesome West encompasses McDonagh’s black comic style that would go on to define his plays and films.

Valene and Coleman are two brothers who have lived together for years with constant petty squabbling. Now after their father’s death, and following the exhortations of the local priest, a new understanding could develop – could – if the two brothers could stop arguing over crisps, ornaments, who left the top off Valene’s pen and whose turn it is to read a magazine.

The best amateur drama The Everyman has to offer.

The Pigeon Factory

written and performed by Aaron O' Neill

Thursday 4th - Saturday 6th April @8pm

Walden has a pretty good life – happily married to his mannequin wife, he works his pigeon children into the ground so that he may feast upon their eggs for sustenance. Walden is doing everything he’s supposed to do – so why does he feel so empty? Can his fantasies about his pigeons sustain him? Or must he do the hard thing, and face up to a great hurt done to him in the past? A new one-man show that explores work, family, and finding purpose in a broken society, through the lens of absurdity, pathos, and pigeons.

A big hit at Cork Midsummer 2023, don’t miss a chance to catch The Pigeon Factory when it returns to CAT.

Camerata Øresund returns to Bantry

for the 2024 Festival

Camerata Øresund is a vibrant group of authentic baroque musicians. Founded in 2010 by violinist Peter Spissky (Concerto Copenhagen), the group’s members are drawn from the Øresund region of southern Sweden and eastern Denmark.

They return to Bantry for this summer's Festival where they perform Bach alongside works by Bach's cousin and son. On Thursday 4 July, they will set audiences alight with the passion and energy of four of Vivaldi's violin concertos and will also perform the world premiere of a new work by Sam Perkins which celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the acquisition of the County Cork harpsichord.

Towards the end of the week, they will be joined by soprano Anna Devin for a Handel tour de force.
