Cork Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Muintir Cork and supported by the HSE and Cork City and County Councils. Cork Cultural Companions has local networks of members who attend events together regularly in Cork City, Mallow, Bantry and East Cork.

Irish Chamber Orchestra & Florian Donderer at St Brendan's Bantry

The Irish Chamber Orchestra revisits David Fennessy’s remarkable and ethereal Hirta Rounds evoking memories of Scottish islanders leaving their homes of many centuries. The charismatic Florian Donderer gives an emotive perform of Haydn’s Violin Concerto – an all-time favourite with is its radiant outer movements flanking an exquisite Adagio. The ICO concludes with Dvořák’s sunny and genial Serenade for Strings, one of his best loved works. A rich melody and optimistic mood are at the heart of this life affirming serenade. This ICO showcase is another romp of pure, unadulterated joy!

Guinness Cork Jazz 2022

The festival returns for its 44th year with a host of new acts, venues, and experiences to surprise and delight attendees. Taking place over the October Bank Holiday weekend from the 28th – 31st, this year’s line-up is incredibly special with some of the biggest names in jazz gracing the stage for what is set to be the most magnetic Guinness Cork Jazz Festival we have seen yet – tickets are on sale from Friday, 26th August.

Archaeology of Nancy Spain's - Lecture Series at Cork City Library

Dave Murphy (Site Director) and Niamh Daly (Osteoarchaeologist) will present on

the recent archaeological excavations conducted by John Cronin and Associates at

the former Nancy Spain’s pub on Barrack Street, Cork City. Please be advised that

this illustrated lecture will feature images of archaeologically derived human skeletal

remains.



Cork International Short Story Festival October 12-15

For all you avid readers, there are a host of great events happening during the Cork International Short Story Festival this month. Brought to you by the Munster Literature Centre in partnership with Cork City Library Service. A selection of the best practitioners of the art from Ireland, UK and North America will be reading from the works along with a range of other events.

The 2022 collection is the 18th edition in the series and features the best original short stories submitted by adult writers who are registered Library members. The 2022 editor is the respected author Denyse Woods.

Apple Tart is a play about and dedicated to Dolores’ mother. “My mother – a woman whose never ending song is in my heart bringing me comfort, happiness and making me complete. I may sometimes forget the words, but I always remember the tune.” 

You come to realise that the mind of someone with Alzheimer’s can bring joy and teach you to live in the moment. Although they can no longer make memories, you can still relish the moment you share with them.

We will meet up at 6.30pm for a tea and a chance to get to know each other at a local café before going together to the venue together to enjoy the wonderful aria recital by soprano Rachel Croash in Cork Opera House. About the event:

On Culture Night, Cork Opera House will be presenting the first of a three-part Lecture-Recital Series with the Cara O’ Sullivan Associate Artists. 

Curated and performed by Dublin soprano Rachel Croash, this 40 minute aria recital captures the wonders and woes of the Leading Ladies of Puccini and Verdi. Joined by pianist Ciara Moroney, Rachel performs and discusses some of the most captivating arias from the post-Romantic operatic tradition to include repertoire from Madama Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi, La Bohème and Otello.

The 17th edition of Culture Night returns to Cork City on Friday 23 September 2022

Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council; it is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day.  

There are a host of diverse FREE events on in Cork City for Culture Night.
